What is a solution?
~ A solution is a type of mixture in which the compounds that make up the mixture are in the same ratio in every part of the mixture. This is also known as a homogeneous mixture.
If the compounds that make up a mixture are in different states, which part of the mixture determines the state of the solution?
~ When the compounds that make up a mixture are in different states, the state of the solution is determined by the solvent.
When the compounds are in the same state, what is the difference between the solvent and the solute?
~ When the compounds in a mixture are in the same state, the solvent is usually the substance with the larger volume, whereas the solute is usually the substance with the smaller volume.
What is dissolution?
~ Dissolution is the process through which a substance breaks down into pieces and mixes with another substance homogeneously.
